Just a thought

During my morning reading, it occurred to me that John was not expecting the Lamb, he was expecting the Lion.  He was expecting Jesus to walk in and set things straight with force.  It's just a line of thought.  What are we expecting of Jesus that he just might not meet?  I remembered that one day John sent people to ask him if he was really the one.  The misunderstanding of John did not change his action, his destiny or his effect.  Just a morning thought.  Today began cool, but promises a warm-up.  I have much to do and am not real sure what to tackle first.  I hope your day is blessed.

  1. Despite the protests today by Jews of two Moshiacs, it was not so in the first Century. They believed that if they were NOT worthy, they would get a Moshiac ben Joseph, a suffering Messiah. And if they were worthy, they would receive a Moshiac ben David, a triumphant Messiah.

Unfortunately, most observant Jews deemed themselves worthy, and it is likely that Jochanon did as well, though
he apparently was conflicted. Curious, though, is that he asked the person with whom he was having doubts about if he was in fact Moshiac ben David. Apparently to him, Y’shuah was not acting like a kingly Messiah at that point, and he thought that he should.

I think Y'shuah's reply was also telling in that he pointed to the miracles that only the Messiah could perform, and most observant Jews would not mistake, to allay Jochanon’s doubt, and more, he added a blessing to those who did not doubt him. It was more akin to saying “to not doubt me is a gift from God”

Oh my. I didn’t mean to go on so!

  2. it is a good perspective. my thoughts are almost always applicable, perhaps because of the teacher inside. john was not taught wrong, he just had trouble with the personal application especially since as a special servant he was imprisoned. 'do we look for another?'
